In what has become an annual tradition, Blizzard Entertainment has issued some big announcements for itsWorld of Warcraft MMORPG, as well as its Starcraft and Diablo games. As has been the case with previous April 1st announcements, these additions to Blizzard's venerable games are so fantastic they're pretty hard to believe.
Crabby the Dungeon Helper is a new feature coming soon to World of Warcraft. Similar to Clippit (or Clippy) the paperclip from older versions of Microsoft Office, Crabby overlays the user's World of Warcraft interface and offers assistance for various areas of the dungeon experience. Crabby's expertise extends to things like finding the best loot, organizing groups, and solving all other World of Warcraft-related problems. For a sneak peak of what it might be like to have Crabby around, visit the official World of Warcraft website and check out theCrabby information page. (Be sure to pay attention to what Crabby tells you... he seems to have quite the personality!)
Also coming soon to World of Warcraft is a new dungeon, buried deep underneath Duskwood. Coming in patch 4.1.11,The Tomb of Immortal Darkness is a new level 85 dungeon that features Deep Dark technology. Perhaps the most challenging World of Warcraft dungeon to date, players will find themselves stumbling through utter darkness in an attempt to find the Dark Lord of Twilight himself, Omgsogoth. If players are lucky, they may come across some items that will help light the way: Companion Bat's sonic screeches briefly illuminate nearby enemies, and there is talk of a special Kobold Candle that players must indeed take if they want to see the dangers around them.
Blizzard also released announcements for their Starcraft and Diablo games today. Starcraft fans will soon be treated to an entirely new play experience as Blizzard returns to consoles with StarCraft Motion Overdrive, where the gameplay depends entirely on the player's body movements. Diablo fans can obtain the Horadric Cube app for their smartphone or other mobile device. This should be used with extreme caution, however, and Blizzard has issued a disclaimer that they won't be held liable for any instances of demonic possession, lost souls, or athlete's foot that may be caused by use of the app.
